Space Systems
Whether enabling successful launches of satellites, satellite systems, or enabling humans to live and work in outer space, HS Space Systems has fielded technologies and flight hardware to make these missions successful. Space Systems has more than 40 years of space heritage and has been a part of every major space program since the 1960s.
Human Space
Enabling human space exploration has been the company’s core focus since the Apollo era in the 1960s. These unique human space flight technical and systems engineering skills continue to be developed as the company incorporates emerging new technologies in the next generation of NASA’s space vehicles, space suits, launch systems, surface habitats, in-situ resource utilization, and human/robotic systems integration, as we begin our 21st Century journey back to the moon and on to Mars.
Extravehicular Activity (EVA)
Enabling work by human space explorers has been one of the company’s core focus areas. The first steps taken by Neil Armstrong on the surface of the moon in 1969 were in a Hamilton Sundstrand “space suit.” More recently, the EMU (Extravehicular Mobility Unit) played a pivotal role in the Hubble Space Telescope repair, and continues to serve astronauts as they assemble the International Space Station. Space Systems is advancing novel EVA concepts for a new generation of space adventurers who will explorer the moon and Mars with unprecedented capabilities provided by its space suit systems and tools.
