Land Systems

The land systems business is leveraging technologies developed for NASA to provide fresh solutions for both military and civilian applications.  From novel water generation systems, to solar power energy, we are providing tomorrow’s technical innovation today.

Chemical Biological Mass Spectrometer (CBMS) II

This sophisticated chemical and biological detection and identification instrument provides unprecedented reconnaissance on several mobile DoD joint services platforms including the Stryker, NBCRV, and JSLNBCRS.  The program is currently in low rate initial production (LRIP) with a planned fielding of the biological detection and identification capability expected in the near future.

Water Generation

Hamilton Sundstrand has developed innovative systems to produce potable water from the exhaust of diesel-powered vehicles and from atmospheric air.  Providing water on the battlefield to ease one of the biggest logistics burden facing Army commanders, Hamilton Sundstrand has developed systems that have been performance tested on Army vehicles and in stationary platforms in Warren, Mich., and at Aberdeen Test Center in Maryland.  As designed, these systems have a broad range of applicability for military uses, as well as for commercial needs where potable water is unavailable.

Vehicle Systems

Land Systems is developing hybrid electric propulsion and on-board vehicle power components for military tactical and combat vehicles.  It has participated in the future tactical truck system demonstration program at Aberdeen Test Center.  Further developments include  prototype hybrid electric propulsion subsystems that encompass efficient power dense motors, generators and associated electronics for application on advanced Tactical Wheeled Vehicles and for Special Operations missions needs.

Solar Power

Space Systems has been developing thermal management and power generation technologies for space applications for 40 years.  Building on this space heritage, Space Systems has developed solar receiver and molten salt thermal storage capabilities.  These technologies enable Space Systems to build Concentrated Solar Power Plants generating green energy efficiently and affordably.
